Youth Programs

As part of our commitment to the communities in which we serve, Pee Dee Electric offers several youth-focused programs intended to provide young people with opportunities in education, leadership, and athletic participation.

Awareness Committee Scholarships

Awareness Committee ScholarshipsCollege scholarships are offered through the Pee Dee Electric Awareness Committee. These scholarships are awarded to students who both live in the Pee Dee Electric, North Carolina service area and are served by Pee Dee Electric, North Carolina. Eligibility requirements are as follows:

  • Applicants must be a high school senior whose residence receives electric service from Pee Dee Electric
  • A recommendation letter from a high school principal, guidance counselor, or teacher must accompany the application
  • Students must have a maintained cumulative average of “B” or higher throughout grades 9 to 12.
  • All applications must be received no later than March 31st of each calendar year
  • Applicant must attend either a 2-year or 4-year accredited college or university

Washington Youth Tour – Our Government in Action

Washington Youth Tour logoEvery June, as many as 1,500 high school students from across the country spend a week in the nation’s capital as part of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Youth Tour. Participating in the Youth Tour is an excellent way to learn about this great nation, develop leadership skills, gain a better understanding of electric cooperatives, and make friendships that will last beyond the week!

Applications for the Rural Electric Youth Tour to Washington, D.C., are accepted between November and January of each calendar year. All area high school students who are rising juniors and seniors and whose home is served by Pee Dee Electric are eligible to compete for an all-expense paid trip to the nation’s capital. Up to 2 students from Pee Dee Electric’s service area will be selected to attend the tour.

Youth Tour applications are available in the guidance office of all area local high schools or can be downloaded below. In addition to the application, a short essay on a specified topic is required. All applications must be postmarked no later than January 12, 2024, and can be emailed to programs@pdemc.com or mailed to:

Sports Camp Scholarships

Sports Camp ScholarshipsNorth Carolina’s Touchstone Energy Cooperatives and Pee Dee Electric offer students the opportunity to attend 1 of 2 renowned NC basketball camps: the Carolina Basketball School at UNC-Chapel Hill and the Wolfpack Women’s Basketball Camp at NCSU in Raleigh, NC. The Carolina Basketball School is offered to males, grades 6 to 7, and the Wolfpack Women’s NCSU Basketball Camp is offered to females, grades 6 to 7.

Students of members who receive power from Pee Dee Electric and will be in 6th or 7th grade are eligible to apply beginning January 1st.
